Success featured as part of Welsh Government Growth Programme: What four years of building Accelero taught us about growth.
Since launching Accelero in 2022, we’ve grown from £300,000 turnover to more than £1 million, supported over 100 organisations and helped more than 500 people secure new roles.
Those numbers matter, but the more useful story is what we learned getting there.
Following our recent feature with Business Wales and the Accelerated Growth Programme, here are five lessons that have shaped the business.
1. Make time to work on the business
One of the biggest challenges in recruitment is balancing delivery with growth. Clients and candidates need your attention now, but if every hour is spent on today’s vacancies, tomorrow’s opportunities get neglected.
We’ve become much more deliberate about making time for strategy, marketing, hiring and developing new markets.
2. Difficult markets force you to get clearer
We’ve grown through a particularly challenging period for recruitment, shaped by redundancies, economic uncertainty and more cautious hiring.
That made it even more important to be clear about what makes Accelero different: specialist knowledge, strong relationships and a recruitment experience that feels like a partnership rather than a transaction.
3. Focus beats trying to do everything
Growth can create pressure to chase every opportunity.
For us, the better approach has been to get clearer about where we can genuinely add value.
Support from the Accelerated Growth Programme helped sharpen our positioning and shape our expansion into Engineering and Sales alongside our established technology and business change specialisms.
4. Hire before you think you’re ready
One piece of advice we’d give our earlier selves is simple: hire sooner.
Since working with AGP, we’ve created seven new roles. Growing the team hasn’t just increased capacity; it has brought new expertise, ideas and opportunities into the business.
5. Don’t wait for perfect conditions
There will always be a reason to delay the next hire, investment or new market.
Some of our biggest progress has happened during one of recruitment’s toughest periods.
The lesson? Make considered decisions, but keep moving.
What comes next
Breaking through £1 million is an important milestone, but it’s just part of the journey.
We’re continuing to strengthen our specialist teams, grow our Engineering and Sales divisions and build a recruitment business that combines deep market knowledge with a genuinely better experience for clients and candidates.
